At Men・Sake-dokoro Burari in Higashi-Nippori, the signature chicken paitan ramen comes with a smooth, potage-like broth. Explore the chicken soba and side dishes, too.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Tucked down a lane in Higashi-Nippori, Men・Sake-dokoro Burari is best known for its chicken paitan ramen, the most popular dish on the menu. The broth has a gentle yellow hue, like a potage, and a creamy, thick texture that still feels light on the palate, with the savoury depth of chicken coming through. Smooth, springy noodles cling to the rich broth, while tender chicken chashu and the crisp bite of yamakurage add welcome contrast.
There are other bowls to choose from, too: spicy chicken paitan ramen, clear-broth chicken soba, and chicken-and-fish dipping noodles offer different levels of richness and flavour. Sides include aromatic chicken gyoza and rice topped with raw egg, both suited to enjoying alongside the soup. Beer on tap and other alcoholic drinks are also available, making it possible to settle in with a drink while waiting for ramen after work or over a relaxed dinner.
The dining room has a quiet atmosphere, and solo diners can feel at ease. Open for both lunch and dinner, the restaurant accepts cash only and does not take reservations. It suits a spontaneous stop for a bowl between outings around Nippori.
